opening hearts and eyes
to a thoughtful life

謝謝阿嬤 (Thank You, Grandma)

February 4, 2025

I used to be an elementary school teacher and ed-tech consultant; now I'm a mom of twins and aspiring children's book author.

This blog is a place for me to write about personal life experiences, gleanings from books I've recently read, past and current DIY projects, and reflective thoughts that need a home outside my heart. Here at HeartEyes, I am opening my heart and eyes to yet another new chapter of my life, and my hope is that by joining me here, your heart and eyes would be opened to a more thoughtful and intentional life.

Hi, i'm tiff!

謝謝阿嬤, for the child you were.
You looked after your little brother while still a child yourself,
Secretly packed food for him at your neighbor’s house,
Carried him on your back to walk to school,
Took on big responsibilities at such a young age.

謝謝阿嬤, for the adolescent you were.
You were diligent and loved to learn,
Took a leadership position in your class,
Helped your classmates with their homework,
Even graded papers for your teachers.

謝謝阿嬤, for the wife you were.
You always supported Agong,
In business and in life, you were his other half.
Through the abundance of trials and tribulations,
You stood by him till the end.

謝謝阿嬤, for the mother you were.
You raised six children while grieving one,
Borrowed rice from your neighbor when times were tough,
Spent time with your children even in their adulthood,
Encouraged them to be happy, healthy, and harmonious.

謝謝阿嬤, for the grandmother you were.
You loved your grandchildren so much,
Traveled across the globe to see us even in your 80s,
Cared for us, talked to us, and always smiled at us.
You were the least judgmental grandmother I knew.

謝謝阿嬤, for the great-grandmother you were.
You talked to your great-grandchildren every week,
Treasured them as much as they treasured you.
The last words you spoke to them were “我愛你 (I love you),”
Words they will be reminded of forever.

謝謝阿嬤, for your faithfulness to the Lord.
You hid hymnals at home when no Bibles were allowed,
Snuck to meetings under the guise of grocery shopping,
Memorized hymn after hymn after hymn,
And sang even until your last breath.

謝謝阿嬤, for the life you led and for who you were.
You always cared for and prayed for others,
Always sang and laughed joyfully,
And always smiled with your kind rainbow eyes.
We love and miss you immensely.
